Starpoint Central School District - EPC

The Starpoint Central School District was interested in reducing energy costs and carbon emissions and selected Wendel for an energy savings performance contract. The campus of four distinct buildings housing approximately 2,800 students in a primary, intermediate, middle, and high school.
With Wendel's assistance, the district leveraged an Energy Savings Performance Contract (EPC) to reduce operating expenses that sufficiently cover the cost of the energy upgrades and yield a significant positive cashflow surplus utilized to fund a long-term capital improvement program. The district is creatively using the EPC project to upgrade energy-related systems while developing a multi-year capital improvement program to accomplish even more upgrades that will benefit the students and faculty for years to come.
The Energy Performance Contract included LED Lighting Upgrades, Building Envelope Improvements, Domestic Hot Water Systems Replacements, and Water Conservation Upgrades. To assist with the cost of this work, we helped the district secure a 75% grant for the Comprehensive Energy Audit through NYSERDA’s Green and Clean Energy Schools Program and utilizing our term contract with NYSERDA.
The overall project cost was $1,458,851. The savings over 15 years with State Aid and Incentives totals $2,687,096, and surplus revenue over 15 years will total $794,606.
