FPL Energy Services (FPLES), a NAESCO-accredited energy service company (ESCO), is a full-service energy solutions provider whose work ranges from lighting retrofits to backup power generation. For more than thirty years, FPLES has delivered comprehensive energy cost and greenhouse gas-reducing energy efficiency solutions to various businesses and federal, state and local government agencies.
FPLES has special expertise in retrofitting educational facilities, where they've consistently fulfilled savings guarantees for more than three decades.
Three examples of FPLES' school projects:
Brevard Community College (BCC) – In 2000, FPLES partnered with BCC, now known as Eastern Florida State College (EFSC), and, implemented turnkey energy and water conservation upgrades across four campuses. As a result of FPLES' upgrades, BCC has since reduced their power consumption by 816,000 kWh, annual water consumption 7,697 gallons and curtailed their annual energy-related greenhouse gas emissions by 13.5 million pounds. FPLES' project guaranteed $8,210,139 in savings within 10 years, but BCC instead saved $9,267,884 – 12.7% more than the original guarantee.
Eastern Florida State College (EFSC) - FPLES recently partnered with EFSC to upgrade its four campuses in Cocoa, Melbourne, Palm Bay and Titusville. Once complete, the project will update the efficiency of lighting, water, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems throughout 47 facilities – a total of 1,724,900 ft2. Implemented through an energy savings performance contract (ESPC), the total cost for project execution is $15,383,682. The projected first year cost savings will be $806,515, yielding a payback time of 19.1 years, which is shorter than the 20 years payback time stipulated by Florida State Statute 489.145.
Florida Atlantic University (FAU) - FPLES recently partnered with FAU to upgrade the school's transformers and electrical systems in order to lower operational costs and improve energy efficiency. The project, which is scheduled to be completed this summer, will save the school more than $800,000 in annual electrical costs.
Educational facilities have unique and high-performance needs. FPLES understands this and remains dedicated to bringing cost-saving and energy efficient solutions to schools across Florida.
