Senior Mechanical Engineer:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer leads project development and engineering efforts on several concurrent medium to large energy retrofit construction projects. Our ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Architectural (HVAC emphasis) or Mechanical Engineering and minimum 6 years total professional experience that includes a wide range of experience in HVAC systems design, building energy systems energy simulation, and construction management. This position is for our Beaverton, OR office location. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate success in the following skills and abilities:

Skills and abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of building automation and temperature controls systems, HVAC systems, lighting and lighting controls, and building mechanical codes.
  • Strong mechanical/HVAC design capability in institutional, commercial, central plants, and related markets.
  • Experience in building energy modeling and life cycle costing analysis.
  • Knowledge of local Oregon and Washington utility incentives.
  • Knowledge of high-performance/sustainable design practices.
  • Knowledge of the construction process is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Department of Enterprise Services (DES) and Oregon Department of Energy (ODOE) ESCO programs are preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and energy modeling tools; AutoCAD MEP and eQUEST experience is highly desired.
  • Ability to meet fast-paced deadlines while maintaining quality designs.
  • Ability to apply innovative approaches to solve problems.
  • Be fully capable of working in multidisciplinary design teams to assist in meeting the project goals.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish project’s goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
  • Desire and capability to lead others in the project development and design process.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.  Demonstrates the ability to communicate ideas and concepts in both written and oral form.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and develop client relationships. Effectively engage clients in the project development process.
  • Professional (Mechanical) Engineering License in Washington or Oregon with ability to obtain in other surrounding states. NCEES Record a plus.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with AutoCAD, eQUEST and Microsoft Excel Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) are preferred.

Job Responsibilities:  Lead overall project development and engineering efforts on institutional and commercial building energy conservation or mechanical HVAC renovation projects. This includes individually performing and leading other engineers in completing the following:

  • Perform on-site commercial and industrial facility energy audits.
  • Identify and develop energy and water cost reduction solutions for existing buildings.
  • Perform energy modeling and building simulations using dedicated energy modeling software packages, i.e., eQUEST.
  • Accurately calculate projected energy savings.
  • Perform design of building mechanical, electrical and alternative energy systems upgrades, including the production of construction drawings and specifications.
  • Perform project cost estimates.
  • Perform life cycle costing analysis.
  • Prepare energy assessment reports based on analytic findings which include detailed equipment specifications and cost savings analysis.
  • Ensure project development and design process progresses as scheduled.
  • Review and approve contractor submittals.
  • Develop excel-based software tools to support energy and financial analysis.
  • Provide assignments and mentorship to project staff.

Education/Qualitications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architectural (HVAC emphasis) or Mechanical Engineering
  • A minimum of 6 years total professional experience that includes a wide range of experience in HVAC systems design, building energy systems energy simulation, and construction management
